ROBERT MONTGOMERY WORKS IN A POETIC AND MELANCHOLIC POST-SITUATIONIST TRADITION.

Montgomery’s work is both conceptual, thought provoking and highly recognisable, and we showcased his site specific works alongside Art Share on billboards around Los Angeles in 2014. The artist’s reception was held June 28th and hosted by Art Share to inaugurate this momentous occasion.  This was the marking of his first exhibition and public art piece in Southern California.

Robert Montgomery follows a tradition of conceptual art and is distinguished for his drawing from examples of public interventionist strategy, whilst bringing a poetic voice to the discourse of text-based art. Montgomery creates billboards, light pieces, woodcuts and watercolors. The British artist selected for the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2012, the first biennale in India, Montgomery has had solo exhibitions at venues across Europe and Asia, including a recently mounted, major outdoor light installation on the site of the old US Air Force base at Tempelhof in Berlin, with Neue Berliner Räume. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions at venues as diverse KOP, Breda, NL; Athens Festival, GR; Palais de Tokyo, Paris, FR; 54th Venice Biennale, Venice, IT; The De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, UK; The Grand Palais, Paris, FR; Guido Costa Projects, Turin, IT; The Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh Scotland; and The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle-Gateshead, UK.
