DAVID ALEKHUOGIE – “BAPTISM”
“The images for this body of work, Baptism, were taken during a self assigned pilgrimage to Atlanta, Georgia and its surrounding communities.. Atlanta is an ideologically charged site. Cradle of the Civil Rights movement, birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and home to one of the most affluent African American communities in the country, Atlanta exists simultaneously as historical monument and “black mecca.” In Baptism, Atlanta’s promise of “black excellence” becomes a point of inquiry.”
FAITH47 – “SALUS POPULI SUPREMA LEX ESTO” “The well-being of the people must be the supreme law” 2018 – Mural – Skid Row Los Angeles
“This work is the continuation of a recent video installation in Jacksonville, Florida, entitled” By Virtue Of . We must strive to turn our gaze to those who need it most, to that blind spot of society where we can intercept our humanity more. A healthy society should provide a wide range of services to assist and help its citizens live a dignified human life . Access to drinking water, education, health care and shelter should be a key priority ”
